Alas, an Obit of Sorts!
It is with great sadness that the Kingdom of Spain announces the expiration of their beloved Brazil-2014-World-Cup-dream after a brief illness (cancer of the tiki-taka) in Brazil.
Conceived July 11, 2010 at Soccer City, Johannesburg, the deceased was the pride and joy of the Spanish people. There was a popular saying that if the Kingdom had one (collective) eye, he was the apple of that eye.
On July 1, 2012 he won the people's heart at the Olympic stadium in Kiev. A year later, a handful of said people got their hearts back from him at the Confederations Cup at the Estadio Do Maracana, Brazil.
Notwithstanding, he was the deal. The only deal. Pundits all agreed his crowning glory would come on July 13, 2014 in Brazil.
Sadly, the grim reaper did not get the memo....
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents: the Kingdom of Spain, and the Spanish National Team; his wife Shakira, and his in-laws, the Colombians, as well.
He would have been fondly remembered by his cousin, the Englishman, had that one not met his own unfortunate demise just two days later.
A prayer service will be held 9am on Friday, June 27 at the Almudena Cathedral, Madrid.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in memory of the late hero on Saturday, June 28, at the Basilica of San Lorenzo el Real, Madrid with Fathers Antonio Banderas and Enrique Iglesias presiding. Time is 10am.

Internment will follow immediately at the Royal Pantheon of El Escorial, Madrid.
